Then onde wactar ther nogh vppå
The Futility of Malice
The wicked plot against the righteous, but their violence will ultimately recoil upon themselves.
The wicked man keeps watch for a chance to bring the righteous down and pursue him with malice. But it won't do him much good, for the Lord will laugh at him: he sees and knows that his time will soon come. The wicked draw their swords and bend their bows, turning their hands against the righteous, who deserve far better. But their swords will take another course and pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken.
The Inheritance of the Faithful
God sustains the righteous with his presence and provision, while the wicked vanish like smoke.
The little that the righteous have is far better than the wealth the wicked love, which draws them away from God. God breaks the power of the wicked, but strengthens the faithful, who gladly keep his commands with all their heart. The Lord watches over the days of the righteous and knows when to give them comfort. Their inheritance will be kept safe for them forever. They won't be put to shame in troubled times; when hunger comes, he gladly provides for them. The wicked will certainly perish, no matter how powerful they are; even if they enjoy themselves and never lack people to prey upon, they will soon vanish like smoke, and a swift end will overtake them. The wicked build on a false foundation and never intend to pay back what they owe; the righteous are merciful and generous, both lending and giving. Those blessed by God will inherit the land, but those he curses will be driven from it.
God’s Guiding Hand
God directs the steps of the righteous and sustains them through every stage of life.
God guides a person's journey and every path by his grace; otherwise, they won't fare well and will only put themselves in danger. Even if they stumble and are about to fall, God will reach out his hand to keep them from falling to their harm. From childhood into old age, I’ve never known a righteous person to be forsaken by God, or his children to go begging for bread. He is generous and helps those in need, and his descendants are blessed.

Never lose the rhythm again
Chosen Portion delivers your morning, midday and night office to your phone — the Hours, without the bells.
Chosen Portion is a modern Book of Hours: it turns the fixed-hour structure this collection preserves into scheduled, tappable daily prayer on your phone.
- Three daily prayer moments scheduled around your real calendar, not a monastery's
- Psalms and historic prayers sequenced for you — no page-flipping or decision fatigue
- A visible streak of completed offices, so the rhythm compounds instead of collapsing
