The Duty of Gratitude
We are called to recognize that all good comes from God and to understand His purpose in bestowing grace.
Since all the good we have and do comes from God and belongs to Him, we must give thanks for every good deed, every victory, and all the individual and common blessings we receive from His merciful hand. And to do this properly, we must consider the purpose for which the Lord moves to communicate His graces to us, because from this consideration and understanding, we learn how God wishes to be thanked by us.
Reflecting on Divine Generosity
By contemplating God's power and our own unworthiness, we are moved to humble praise.
Since in every benefit the Lord primarily intends to receive honor for Himself and to draw us to His love and service, first make this consideration with yourself: "With what power, wisdom, and goodness my God has granted me and done for me this benefit and this grace!" . Then, seeing that there is nothing in you (coming from you) worthy of any benefit, but rather only demerits and ingratitude, with deep humility you will say to the Lord: “And how is it, Lord, that you deign to look upon a dead dog, granting me so many benefits? Blessed be your name forever and ever.”
The Response of Love
True thanksgiving culminates in a burning desire to serve God and a total offering of oneself.
Finally, seeing that through this benefit He wants to be loved and served by you, be inflamed with love for such a loving Lord and with a sincere desire to serve Him as He wishes. So, you should add to this a full offering, which you'll make in the following way.

Perché tutto il bene che abbiamo e facciamo è di Dio e da Dio, gli dobbiamo rendere grazie di ogni nostro buon esercizio, di ogni vittoria e di tutti i benefici particolari e comuni ricevuti dalla sua pietosa mano. E per fare questo nel debito modo, si deve considerare il fine per cui il Signore si muove a comunicarci le sue grazie, perché da questa considerazione e da questa conoscenza si impara in qual modo Dio voglia essere da noi ringraziato.
Siccome in ogni beneficio il Signore principalmente intende avere l'onore per sé e attirare noi all'amore e al servizio suo, prima fa' con te stessa questa considerazione: “Con quale potenza, sapienza e bontà il mio Dio mi ha concesso e mi ha fatto questo beneficio e questa grazia!” .
Poi, vedendo che in te (come proveniente da te) non c'è cosa degna di alcun beneficio, anzi non c'è altro che demeriti e ingratitudine, con profonda umiltà dirai al Signore: “E com'è, Signore, che ti degni guardare un cane morto, facendomi tanti benefici? Sia benedetto il tuo nome nei secoli dei secoli”.
Finalmente, vedendo che con il beneficio egli vuole essere da te amato e servito, infiammati d'amore verso un Signore tanto amoroso e del desiderio sincero di servirlo come a lui piace. E perciò a questo aggiungerai una piena offerta, che farai nel seguente modo.
