Che cos'è l'orazione mentale
Defining Mental Prayer
Mental prayer is defined as the elevation of the mind to God to request His grace.
Mental prayer is the lifting of the mind to God, with an actual or virtual request for what you desire.
Actual Prayer in the Heat of Battle
This section explains how to use explicit, verbal requests during spiritual combat to seek God's aid.
You make this request when, in your mind, you ask for grace like this: “Lord my God, grant me this grace for your honor.” Or like this: “My Lord, I believe it pleases you and is for your glory that I ask for this grace; therefore, fulfill your divine will in me.” When you are actually being attacked by enemies, pray like this: “My God, be ready to help me so that I don't give in to my enemies.” Or: “My God, my refuge, my fortress, help me quickly so that I don't fall.” As you continue the battle, keep praying this way and always resist bravely against whoever fights against you. After the harshness of the battle has ended, turn to your Lord and show Him the enemy that has fought against you and your weariness in resisting him, saying: “Here, Lord, is the creature made by your hands and redeemed by your great goodness through your blood. Here is your enemy, who tries to snatch her from You and devour her. My Lord, I turn to you; I trust in you alone, for you are all-powerful and good, and you see my helplessness and my readiness to willingly submit to the enemy without your help. Help me then, my hope and the strength of my soul.”
The Power of Virtual Prayer
Virtual prayer is described as a silent, interior turning toward God that serves as a powerful and accessible weapon for the soul.
A virtual prayer occurs when we lift our minds to God to obtain some grace, showing Him our need without saying or reasoning about anything. For example, when I raise my mind to God, I recognize in His presence that I'm powerless to defend myself from evil or to do good, and, filled with the desire to serve Him, I humbly and faithfully await His help, attentively looking to the Lord Himself. This kind of knowledge, this ardent desire, and this faith before God is a prayer that virtually asks for what I need; and the clearer and more sincere this knowledge is, and the more fervent the desire and living faith, the more effectively it will be asked. There is also another, more precise kind of virtual prayer, which is made with a simple gaze of the mind toward God, asking Him for help. This kind of focus is just a silent remembrance and a quiet request for the grace we already asked for. My daughter, make sure you learn this kind of prayer well and make it familiar to you, because, as experience will show you, it's a weapon you can easily have at your disposal in every situation and place, and it's of greater value and benefit than I can express.
