The Spiral of Deception
The enemy deepens the sinner's blindness to keep them trapped in a cycle of habitual sin.
Keeping someone in the slavery of sin, the devil does nothing but blind him further and remove him from any thought that might lead him to recognize his miserable life. He not only removes him from the thoughts and inspirations that call him to conversion with other opposing thoughts, but also, with quick and eager opportunities, causes him to fall into the same sin or into even greater ones. Therefore, as his blindness becomes thicker and more profound, he plunges deeper and becomes accustomed to sin; thus, from this blindness to greater blindness and from this guilt to greater guilt, his miserable life flows in a vicious circle until death, unless God provides for him with His grace.
The Urgent Cry for Deliverance
The sinner must urgently seek divine help and spiritual guidance to break free from the enemy's grasp.
The remedy for this, as far as we're concerned, is that anyone who finds themselves in this unfortunate state should be diligent in making room for thoughts and inspirations that call them from darkness to light, crying out with all their heart to their Creator: "My Lord, help me, help me quickly, and don't leave me any longer in this darkness of sin." Nor should he cease to cry out repeatedly in this way or in a similar manner. If possible, run right away to a spiritual father asking for help and guidance to free yourself from the enemy. If you can't get there right away, turn with all urgency to the Crucified One, throwing yourself at His sacred feet with your face to the ground; likewise, turn to the Virgin Mary and ask for mercy and help. Know that victory lies in this urgency, as you'll understand in the following chapter.

Tenendo qualcuno nella schiavitù del peccato, il demonio non attende ad altro che ad accecarlo sempre più e a rimuoverlo da qualunque pensiero che possa indurlo alla cognizione della sua infelicissima vita. Né lo rimuove solamente dai pensieri e dalle ispirazioni che lo chiamano alla conversione con altri pensieri contrari, ma con pronte e sollecite occasioni lo fa cadere nello stesso peccato o in altri maggiori. Perciò diventando più folta e cieca la sua cecità, più viene a precipitarsi e ad abituarsi nel peccato; così da questa a maggior cecità e da questa a maggior colpa, quasi in un circolo vizioso scorre la sua misera vita fino alla morte, se Dio non vi provvede con la sua grazia.
Il rimedio a ciò, per quanto tocca a noi, è che colui il quale si ritrova in questo infelicissimo stato sia sollecito nel dare spazio al pensiero e alle ispirazioni che dalle tenebre lo chiamano alla luce, gridando con tutto il cuore al suo Creatore: “Signor mio, aiutami, aiutami presto e non mi lasciare più in queste tenebre di peccato”. Né lasci di replicare più volte e di gridare in questo o in un modo somigliante.
Se è possibile, corra subito subito da un padre spirituale chiedendo aiuto e consiglio per potersi liberare dal nemico. E non potendo andarvi subito, ricorra con ogni sollecitudine al Crocifisso, buttandosi innanzi ai suoi sacri piedi con la faccia a terra; come pure ricorra a Maria Vergine, chiedendo misericordia e aiuto. E sappi che in questa sollecitudine sta la vittoria, come nel seguente capitolo intenderai.
