Chapter 90Revel.6.90

The Skeptic's Challenge

A religious man questions the validity of the Bride's visions, rejecting the possibility of divine revelation to her.

When Master Matthias was speaking with a certain religious man of great authority and familiarity about this grace of heavenly visions divinely given to the Bride, that religious man replied: "It's not believable, nor does it align with Scripture, that God would turn away from those who are continent and have renounced the world, only to reveal His secrets to grand women." But when the master brought forward many arguments about this, he didn't agree.

The Divine Diagnosis

The Bride prays for guidance, and Christ responds by rebuking the man's intellectual pride and vanity.

When the bride heard these things and saw that the master was troubled, she turned to prayer. And then, caught up in the Spirit, she heard Christ saying this: Many suffer from such a dangerous sickness that they are made ill by the very antidote meant to heal them. That is why it shouldn't be given to them, lest they become even sicker. I, however, am the medicine for the sick and the truth for those who wander, but this talkative religious man does not desire the medicine, because his heart is filled with the dung of vain knowledge.

The Correction of Pride

Christ declares that He will humble the man through physical affliction, which subsequently comes to pass.

Therefore, I will strike him with my own hand, and everyone will hear that I am a God who isn't just talk, but who is effective and to be feared. This same religious man was later humbled by this trial, and he died paralyzed.

  1. Phil.3.8But more than that—indeed, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have lost everything and consider it all rubbish, so that I may gain Christ.
