Come, Holy Spirit, and fill me with all your gifts, and drive away from me Satan with all his temptations, which often distract me in my prayers and devout meditations. Come, most sweet breeze, blow through the garden of my heart with the fiery warmth of your love, and extinguish every carnal desire within me, so that the fragrant aromas of gratitude may flow with the rain of tears from the great compunction for my sins and with the sweet remembrance of all your benefits. Come, best Comforter, and lift me up from the depths of gloomy sadness with the brightness of inner joy, along with the hope of eternal peace for my small effort. Strengthen me against the weariness of my mind with your words in hymns and psalms. God, grant me a shield of patience against the stirrings of anger. Against the swelling of pride, strike me with the fear of death and of eternal damnation. Who wouldn’t fear the power of your wrath and the punishment without end? Help me to focus on my own weaknesses and the virtues of others, instead of chasing after empty glory and boasting. Teach me to keep silence against the lightness of words. Help me, Lord, to keep my eyes from shedding tears over a foolish laugh, and instead to weep with a deep sigh. It's better to weep bitterly than to laugh emptily. Against curiosity and vague visions, present to me Jesus crucified for me. Show me the decay of the worms beneath the garments. Open for me the graves of the dead against the desire of the flesh. Against the cup of wine, pour me the bitterness of Christ and vinegar. Against the empty rumors of the world, tell me divine truths. Block my ears quickly against long-winded tales, so that poison doesn't slip in through the windows. Protect me from falling into various temptations by binding my hands and feet with the fear of you, Lord. Against evil sadness and acedia, pour into me the grace of your holy anointing. Against the left side, inspire in me a better estimation of my neighbor. In the face of the wrong done to me, grant me patience and help me avoid seeking revenge, so that I don’t lose the crown of glory promised to those who endure. Against the various ailments of my soul, grant me the healing forms of your virtues and the blossoms of the holy doctors. Help me to overcome my bad habits and resist the violence of nature for the sake of eternal life. In the face of the heaviness of labor, grant me the ability to maintain peace in my heart through devoted prayer. Against the doubt that arises in many adversities, grant me to have a good confidence in you, based on your greatest piety and the merits of the saints. O kind Holy Spirit, helper in tribulations. Amen.
