A Plea for Grace and Protection
The petitioner asks the Mother of God for spiritual guidance, protection, and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
I sing of your grace, O Lady; I pray you, fill my mind with grace. Guide me to walk uprightly along the path of Christ’s commandments. Strengthen me to keep watch and sing, driving away the sleep of despondency. By your prayers, O Bride of God, free me from the chains of my falls into sin.1 Guard me night and day, and deliver me from the enemies who attack me. You who gave birth to God, the Giver of Life, bring me to life, for my passions have left me dead. You who gave birth to the Light that never sets, enlighten my blinded soul.2 O wondrous chamber of the Lord, make me a dwelling place of the divine Spirit.3
Deliverance and Renewal
The prayer shifts to a request for healing from passions, deliverance from judgment, and the renewal of the soul.
You who gave birth to the Physician, heal the long-standing passions of my soul. I am tossed by the storms of this life; guide me onto the path of repentance. Deliver me from the everlasting fire, the evil worm, and hell.✦ Do not let me, guilty of so many sins, be a cause of celebration for the demons. All-Immaculate Lady, make me new, for I have grown old through senseless sins. Keep me untouched by every torment, and plead with the Lord of all. Make me worthy to share the joys of heaven with all the saints. Most Holy Virgin, hear the voice of your unworthy servant.
A Final Offering of Praise and Supplication
The petitioner offers tears and groans to the Mother of God, asking her to present this prayer to Christ.
Most Pure One, grant me a stream of tears to wash away the stains from my soul. I continually offer you the groans of my heart; come earnestly to my aid, O Lady. Receive this prayerful offering of mine and present it to the compassionate God. You who are higher than the angels, raise me above the entanglements of this world. Light-bearing heavenly Canopy, direct spiritual grace within me.4 All-Immaculate One, I raise my hands and lips in praise, even though they are stained with impurity. Deliver me from the evils that destroy the soul by earnestly imploring Christ, to whom honor and worship are due, now and always and forever and ever. Amen.
