Gratitude for Rest and Awakening
The prayer begins by thanking God for His merciful providence in granting physical rest and sparing us from the consequences of our sins.
We bless you, Most High God and Lord of mercy, for you are always doing great and unsearchable, glorious and awe-inspiring things for us, more than can be numbered; you have given us sleep to rest our weakness and to relieve the weariness of our much-labored bodies.✦ We thank you because you did not destroy us with our sins, but, as always, you showed us your love for humanity; while we lay without hope, you raised us up so that we might praise your mighty power.
Petition for Spiritual Illumination
The prayer shifts to a petition for the awakening of the mind and the opening of the lips to glorify the Holy Trinity.
Therefore, we appeal to your boundless goodness: enlighten our thoughts and our eyes, and rouse our minds from the heavy sleep of laziness. Open our mouths and fill them with your praise, so that we may steadfastly sing to you and confess you as God, glorified in all things and by all creation: the Father without beginning, together with your only-begotten Son and your all-holy, good, and life-giving Spirit, now and always and forever and ever.✦✦ Amen.

Тя благослови́м, вы́шний Бо́же и Го́споди ми́лости, творя́щаго при́сно с на́ми вели́кая же и неизсле́дованная, сла́вная же и ужа́сная, и́хже несть числа́, пода́вшаго нам сон во упокое́ние не́мощи на́шея, и ослабле́ние трудо́в многотру́дныя пло́ти. Благодари́м Тя, я́ко не погуби́л еси́ нас со беззако́ньми на́шими, но человеколю́бствовал еси́ обы́чно, и в неча́янии лежа́щия ны воздви́гл еси́, во е́же славосло́вити держа́ву Твою́.
