Молитва 5-я свт. Василия Великого к Богу Отцу
A Plea for Mercy and Purification
The prayer begins by acknowledging God's majesty and seeking forgiveness for all known and unknown sins.
Lord Almighty, God of hosts and of all flesh, you dwell on high and look upon the humble; you search hearts and innermost thoughts and clearly know the secrets of all people beforehand. Eternal Light, without beginning and ever-present, in whom there is no change or shifting shadow: Immortal King, receive the prayers we offer you now from unclean lips, daring to approach because of your abundant compassion. Forgive all the sins we have committed in deed, word, and thought, knowingly or unknowingly, and cleanse us from every defilement of flesh and spirit.✦✦✦✦
Watching for the Eternal Day
The petitioner asks for grace to remain vigilant and prepared for the glorious return of Christ.
And grant that we may pass through the whole night of this present life with watchful hearts and sober minds, awaiting the coming of the bright and manifest day of your only-begotten Son, our Lord and God and Savior Jesus Christ. On that day the Judge of all will come in glory to repay each person according to their deeds. May we not be found fallen and lazy, but awake, active, and ready for his work, so that we may enter with him into the joy and divine bridal chamber of his glory, where the voices of those who celebrate never cease and where those who behold the indescribable beauty of your face know an inexpressible delight.✦✦✦✦
The Light of All Creation
The prayer concludes with a doxology praising God as the source of all light and the object of universal worship.
For you are the true Light, enlightening and sanctifying all things, and all creation sings your praise forever and ever.✦ Amen.
