The Nine Beatitudes
This chapter defines the number of beatitudes as nine, referencing Saint John Chrysostom's comparison of them to the Ten Commandments given by Moses.
Question 29. Since the Beatitudes also relate to Hope, the question is, how many are there? Answer. There are nine Beatitudes proclaimed by Christ our Lord in the Gospel (Mt. 5:2). Saint John Chrysostom offers this interpretation: "Moses gave ten commandments, but Jesus, the Lord of Moses, gave nine Beatitudes." And further: "The Law gave ten commandments, but Jesus gave nine Beatitudes, weaving a crown from the threefold Trinity." (Homilies on 1 Corinthians 4:28).

Вопрос 29. Поелику и блаженства относятся к Надежде: то спрашивается, сколько их?
Ответ. Блаженств, означенных Христом Господом нашим во Евангелии, девять (Мф. 5, 2). На сие Святой Златоуст делает такое толкование: «Моисей дал десять заповедей, а Иисус, Господь Моисея, девять блаженств». И далее: «закон дал десять заповедей, а Иисус девять блаженств, соплетая венец из тройственной Троицы». (Бесед. на 1Кор. 4, 28).
