Therefore, God Himself restrains the various temptations and assaults that ensnare the human soul through both spiritual and carnal as well as infernal enticements, by means of that humanity through which the Devil was defeated, just as the same man tramples underfoot the powers of the elements that are above the earth, on the earth, and beneath the earth. For the Only Begotten Son of God lived among people in the world without sin, giving examples to His faithful followers, so that, having cast aside earthly desires, they might long for heavenly things, and love what is eternal in holiness.

Unde ipse videlicet Deus tentationes diversarura causarura et incursionura, quae et spirituaiibus et carnalibus ac infernalibus incilamentis animam hominis irretitant, per humanitatem illam qua Diabolus contritus est, compescit, quemadmodum et idem vir vires elementorum quae supra terram et in terra ac subtus terram sunt, pedibus suis deprimit.
