XL. Poenitentem zelus Dei minus ferit.

But when a person punishes themselves for their sins and stops sinning, the zeal of the Lord strikes them less severely, because they did not spare themselves, and because they have rejected what they once delighted in. And this is another way that leads a person to a different life.

Cum autem homo se ipsum pro peccatis suis punit, et cum peccare desinit, zelus Domini minus eum ferit, quia iile sibimetipsi non pepercit, et quia hoc abjecit in quo prius delectabatur.

Et istud alia via est quae hominem ad aliam vitam ducit.
