LXXXXVI. Ignavia in timore Dei non lucet.

LXXXXVI. Ignavia in timore Dei non lucet.

Laziness doesn't shine in the fear of God, nor does it burn in the fire of concern for His honor. For the faults of a living person obscure the knowledge that is the breath of life in the soul, in the reward of grace, when he does not want to seek it in good works. And when faith, which ought to be as strong as a backbone, in which the hope of eternal life rests, is neglected in great misfortune; for it does not fulfill the resounding call of good works, since it does not strive with earnest devotion toward God. These things have been said about the souls of the penitent, who are being purified and saved, and they are faithful; let the faithful pay attention to these and keep them in mind as a good foundation of knowledge. — 2) A. — 2) A. — 3) A, W. The lazy person in the fear of God does not shine. Then I saw other spirits of that multitude, who were crying out against us, saying, "What power do you have over us?" None." And they were looking at the women with great desire, saying, "These are fit for the propagation of the world, just as the earth is fit for its seeds." So let us hurry to seduce them, lest they produce a rebellion against us. For those same wicked spirits incite anger and fury and other such evils in people, and they urge them toward murder.

>) demergit A. — 2) hortantur A. — 3) fortem A, W.

VIIL 4 50 S.

Peinde vidi alios praefatae multitudinis spiritus, qui contra exercituni i)^t sic clamabant: « Quam potestatem habetis adversum nos?

Nullam.»
