Jámbor házasok egymásért
Jámbor házasok egymásért
Merciful, gracious God, who from the beginning of the world ordained marriage, and who, by taking on human flesh, sanctified it through your presence and your first miracle—the marriage you made honorable in the ancient holy patriarchs, so that by it your people might increase and the number of the elect be completed: for your holy name's sake, grant that in this state of life we may serve you faithfully. Let the devil have no power over us, as he had over Sarah's husbands; but by your Holy Spirit and the protection of the heavenly angels, guide us so that, together with my spouse, I may bear the burden of holy marriage with a quiet and gentle spirit.1 Keep and increase the love between us, so that we may live free of every coldness, suspicion, unrest, and discord; that we may live purely and with true Christian love; and that, to the end, with one heart and a united will, we may serve you.2 Protect us, Lord, from every bodily and spiritual danger, and for the glory of your holy name and for the building up of Holy Mother Church, grant that our offspring also may serve your holy Majesty.3 Do not look upon my sins, Lord, and do not scourge me with the sickness or death of my beloved spouse; but for the sake of your infinite goodness, preserve us for the glory of your holy name. Through your beloved holy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Amen.
Notes
- 1 ↩"Sára férjein" points to Sarah of Tobit, whose successive husbands were killed by the demon Asmodeus before her marriage to Tobias (Tobit 3; 6–8), not to the wife of Abraham.
- 2 ↩"visszavonyás" (withdrawal/drawing-back of affection) is rendered as "coolness" for plain modern English; alternatives include estrangement or aversion.
- 3 ↩maradékunk: in this marriage-prayer context rendered as posterity/offspring; the word can also mean remnant.
