Az örök boldogságnak kívánsága
Az örök boldogságnak kívánsága
I rejoiced at what I heard: that we are going into the house of the Lord, where there is no sickness, no grief, and no sorrow—because God wipes away our tears and drives away all our pain.✦✦ As the deer longs for the spring, so my soul longs for you, Lord—for I know that I have no lasting city here.✦✦ How lovely, Lord, are your dwellings!✦ My soul longs and grows faint for your dwelling places.✦ Who will free me from this dungeon and captivity of death?✦ Woe is me, for my pilgrimage has been prolonged; I long to be set free and to be with Christ—for one day in your house is better than a thousand years in this world.✦✦✦1 Rejoice, O my soul, for you are going into the Lord's house, where there is no temptation, no warfare, no fear, but quiet and secure joy: where there is no envy, no shrinking back, no evil desire.23 O blessed hour, when I too will gladly sing with Saint David that you brought me through fire and water, and I have come to rest.✦ Then I too will joyfully say with the saints: Lord God, you have made us kings, and we reign forever and ever—not on this earth, where every joy and dominion is brief and passing, but in that land of the living, where there will be neither the darkness of ignorance, as in the gloom of Egypt, for God and the Lamb are the true light of that city, nor restless desires, because the Lord is all in all and intoxicates us with the delights of His house, which so far surpass our longing that the joy God has prepared for His faithful cannot even enter a human heart.✦✦✦✦✦✦45 Rejoice too, O my body, which through death was sown into the ground like good seed, so that at the rising you may spring up far more beautiful. For now you are perishable, but then you will be imperishable; now you are frail and foul, but then you will be powerful and glorious—because the soul's radiance, swiftness, power, and invulnerability will pass over to you as well.6 Into your hands I commend my soul, my God; you have redeemed me, God of truth. I know that my Redeemer lives, and on the last day I will rise, and clothed again in my own skin, I will see my Savior God.✦✦ This hope is hidden in my heart, and with it I go before my Lord.✦

Mely gyönyörűségesek, Uram, a te Sátorid!

Notes
- 1 ↩mególdoztassam is older Hungarian for being loosed/released (cf. Phil 1:23 desire to depart); rendered 'set free' rather than a stiff 'loosed'.
- 2 ↩Early modern Hungarian bátorságos here means secure/safe rather than merely brave; rendered as 'secure' with csendes ('quiet').
- 3 ↩visszavonyás is recoiling/drawing back; rendered as 'shrinking back' for the moral sense of retreat from the good.
- 4 ↩megrészegít is strong inebriation language (cf. traditional 'inebriated with the plenty of your house'); kept as 'intoxicates' rather than flattened to mere 'fills'.
- 5 ↩ütközhetik = strike/enter into; the clause tracks the 1 Cor 2:9 cadence that what God prepared has not entered the human heart.
- 6 ↩fényessége, gyorsasága, hathatóssága, megsérthetetlen volta tracks the traditional gifts of the glorified body (clarity, agility, power/efficacy, impassibility); rendered in plain English rather than scholastic labels.
