Offerings of Faith and Integrity
The author instructs the faithful to bring offerings to the church only after ensuring they are earned honestly and that one is at peace with their neighbor.
Always come to church with faith and an offering—a candle, prosphora, incense, frankincense, a memorial canon, kutya, and alms—both for the living and the dead, and for feast days. Do the same when you visit monasteries, bringing alms and offerings. When you bring your gift to the altar, remember the Gospel: if your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, go first and make peace with your brother, and then bring your gift to God from your own honest earnings. Alms given from wrongdoing are not acceptable. It has been said to the powerful: it is better not to plunder than to give alms from what was gotten unjustly. Giving back to the one you have wronged is more pleasing than alms. But alms that come from honest gain and good works are pleasing to God.✦1

А к церквам Божиим всегда с верою приходити с приношением с свечею и с просфирою с фимияном и с ладоном, с каноном, и с кутьею и милостынею и за здравие и за упокои и к празником, и по монастырем тако с милостынею и с приношением приходити егда принесеши дар свои ко олтарю воспоминаи еуаггельское слово егда нечто имать брат твои на тя остави ту дар свои пред олтарем и шед смирися з братом своим прежде, тогда принеси дар свои к Богу от праведнаго своего имения от неправды неприятна милостыня к силным речено бысть луче не грабити неже милостыня даяти от неправды отдаи обидимому приятнее милостыни, а к Богу приятна милостыня от праведнаго стяжания и от добрых дел.
