Hospitality and Humility at the Table
The chapter instructs on inviting clergy for prayer and maintaining proper conduct, humility, and discernment during communal meals.
On feast days, according to your vow, invite the clergy into your home as far as your means allow, hold prayer services for every petition, and pray for the tsar and grand prince N., autocrat of all Rus, for his tsaritsa and grand princess N., for their noble children, for his brothers, for the boyars, and for all the Christ-loving army—for victory over enemies and for the freedom of captives—and for the entire priestly and monastic order. However, carrying food and drink away from the table in secret, without the permission of the one in charge and without a blessing, is sacrilege and willful disorder; such people are dishonored in every way. When you are invited to a wedding feast, do not sit in the place of honor, in case someone more honored than you is among the guests, and the host comes and says to that person, "Give this man your place," and then you begin, with shame, to take the lowest place. Instead, when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when the host comes he may say to you, "Friend, move up higher"—and then you will have honor before those reclining with you. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted. When many kinds of food and drink are set before you, if someone more honored than you is present, do not begin tasting anything first; but if you are the one of rank, then begin the food that has been set out, using good judgment.✦12 In the homes of some God-loving people, food and drink are set out in abundance, and they take the surplus away intact, so it can later serve the needs of others. But if someone is dull, inexperienced, untaught, and ignorant, and without discernment begins eating every dish to the point of excess and treats it carelessly, he himself will be shamed, mocked, and dishonored by God and by people.

Кипа в которые любо празники по обещанию своему да призывают священническии чин в дом свои елико по силе, и молебная совершают о всяком прошении и молят за царя и великаго князя имярек всея Руси самодержца, и за его царицу и великую княгиню имярек, и за их благородныя чада, и за братью его и за боляре, и за все христолюбиво воиньство иже победу на враги и о плененых свободе, и о всем священническом и иноческом ящаго, а от стола или от трапезы ества и питие таино износити или высылати не по повелению настоящаго и без благословения святотаство суть и самочиние таковых всячески бесчествуют, егда зван будеши ким на брак не седи на преднем месте егда кто честнее тебе будет званных им и пришед иже тебе звавыи оного речет ты даждь сему место, и тогда начнеши со студом посьледнее место держати но егда зван будеши шед сяди на последнем месте, да егда приидет звавыи тя и речет ти друже посяди выше, тогда будет ти слава предвозлежащими с тобою, яко всяк возносяися смирится а смиряися вознесется егда на трапезе предпоставят ти многоразличныя яди и пития егда кто честнее тебе будет званных не начни вкушати преже ничто же, аще ты начальстьвен будеши, предпоставленую ядь разсужая начинаи. У неких боголюбцев изообилно бывает вкушение и питие и излишнее цело снимают, и вперед иным на потребу пригожается и аще кто нечювьствен, и не искусен и не учен, и невежда не рассуждая всякаго брашна в пресыщения начинает, и небрегомо творит, будет и сам поруган и посмеян и обещестен от Бога и от человек.
