III. O eterne Deus
A Prayer Born of Eternal Love
The antiphon asks God to rekindle within believers the same eternal love in which the Son was begotten before creation, then pleads for deliverance from present distress and restoration to the joy of salvation.
Antiphon: O eternal God, may it please you now to burn with that same love, so that we may become the members you fashioned in that love when, before all creation, you begot your Son at the first dawn. Look on this distress that has fallen upon us, and for the sake of your Son draw it away from us, and lead us into the joy of salvation.
Read the original Latin
Antiphona: O eterne Deus, nunc tibi placeat, ut in amore illo ardeas, ut membra illa simus, que fecisti in eodem amore, cum filium tuum genuisti in prima aurora ante omnem creaturam. Et inspice necessitatem hanc, que super nos cadit, et abstrahe eam a nobis propter filium tuum, et perduc nos in leticiam salutis.
