Chapter 2SymH.1.2

II. O magne pater

A Cry for the Father's Help

The antiphon opens with a confession of great need, then pleads with the Father through His own word and name to look upon the suppliants with help, lest they fail and His name be darkened in them.

Antiphon: O great father, we are in great need. Now therefore we beg you — we beg you — through your word, through which you filled us with everything we now lack: may it please you now, father, because it is fitting for you, to look upon us with your help, so that we don't fail, and so your name isn't darkened in us. And through your very name, deign to help us.

Read the original Latin

Antiphona: O magne pater, in magna necessitate sumus.
