Chapter 13Revel.8.13

The Conflict of Two Spirits

Christ explains how both the good and evil spirits influence the human heart through competing thoughts.

Christ speaks to his bride, saying: Thoughts are suggested and poured into the hearts of men by two spirits—the good spirit and the evil one. The good spirit, of course, urges a person to think about heavenly things and not to love the things of this world. The evil spirit, however, persuades a person to love the things of the present that they can see, makes light of sins, brings up excuses for weaknesses, and holds up the examples of the weak, and so on.

Christus loquitur sponse dicens: A duobus spiritibus suggeruntur et infunduntur cogitaciones in cordibus hominum, a bono spiritu scilicet et a malo.
