The Call to Courageous Preaching
Christ commands the deacon to fulfill his office by preaching the truth and instructing the weak, following the example of the apostles.
I am your God, and the God of all, and your Creator, even though I am neglected and despised. Say this to the one you are praying for, whom you know I love: 'When the office of deacon was laid upon you, you received the authority to preach, so that you might instruct the weak and correct the undisciplined.' I didn't refuse to do this myself, and my apostles and disciples did the same; to win even one soul, they traveled through various places, cities, and villages, and for the salvation of souls, they surrendered their own lives even to the point of death. Therefore, since it's your duty to preach, it's neither fitting nor helpful for you to stay silent, because my worst enemies are all around you, and you're walking right in their midst.
The Hypocrisy of the Undisciplined
Christ exposes the gluttony, vanity, and deceit of those who perform religious duties without true devotion or interior faith.
Their cursed gluttony is as hateful to me as if they were eating meat on Good Friday. They are like a vessel open at both ends; even if the whole sea were poured into it, it would never be filled. Nor will those be satisfied whose gluttony is increased into sin by unrestrained lust. They even push away my angels, their own guardians, and invite in demons, who are now closer to them than the good. They stand in my choir not to please me, but so they won't be criticized or disliked by others. They appear to be imitators of the ancient fathers, but in my sight they are truly liars and deceivers. For they have broken the faith they promised me, and they defraud the souls by whose benefits they live, because they repay them with neither their life nor their prayers.
The Path of Judgment and Correction
God declares that those who persist in their sins will face severe correction and, if they remain unrepentant, eternal ruin.
Therefore, before all the angels and saints, I swear by my truth—I who am the Truth, and from whose mouth nothing but truth has ever proceeded—that unless they reform themselves, I will allow them to walk for a little while along the path of their own pleasure. Then, I will lead them along a path like thorns and the sharpest of stings. So that they don't turn away from it, I will place my servants at their right hand and their left, to keep them from turning aside and to compel them to keep moving forward. Then, just as a dead body falls to the earth, their souls will descend into hell and be so deeply covered by its torments that they will never rise again.
