The Purpose of the Mother's Remaining Years
Mary explains that her extended life after the Ascension served to strengthen the apostles and increase her own heavenly crown.
The Mother says, "Remember, daughter, that some years ago I excused Jerome regarding my Assumption." Now, however, I will reveal the truth of this Assumption to you. After my Son’s ascension, I lived in the world for a long time. God willed this so that, by witnessing my patience and way of life, many souls would be converted to Him, and the apostles of God and other chosen ones would be strengthened. My physical nature also required that I live longer, so that my crown might be increased.
A Heart Fixed on the Passion
Mary describes her interior life, marked by constant meditation on her Son's passion and detachment from worldly comforts.
For during all the time I lived after my Son’s ascension, I visited the places where He Himself had suffered and shown His wonders. His passion was so fixed in my heart that, whether I was eating or working, it remained as fresh in my memory as if it had just happened. In the same way, my senses were so withdrawn from worldly things that I was constantly being inflamed by new longings, and in turn, stirred by sorrows. Still, I balanced my sorrow and my joy in such a way that I neglected nothing that belonged to God. I lived among people in such a way that I ignored the things they found delightful, apart from a meager diet—in fact, I didn't even take those for myself.
The Wisdom of a Hidden Assumption
The Mother reveals that her Assumption was kept hidden to ensure the foundational belief in Christ's Ascension remained the primary focus of the early Church.
It was God’s will—the will of my Son—that my Assumption wasn't widely known or preached, so that belief in his Ascension could first be firmly planted in people's hearts. For people’s hearts were stubborn and hard when it came to believing in his ascension; how much more so if my own assumption had been preached right at the beginning of the faith?

Sic eciam sensus mei abstracti erant a mundialibus, quod iugiter quasi nouis desideriis inflammabar vicissimque doloribus excitabar.
