The Tactics of the Adversary
The Mother reveals the distinct methods demons use to entrap, delay, or exhaust the soul through spiritual deception.
The Mother says: "All those you see surrounding you are your spiritual enemies—the spirits of the Devil." Those carrying poles with visible snares are the ones who want to plunge you into mortal sin. As for those you see holding hooks in their hands, they are the ones who want to hold you back from serving God, so that you become sluggish toward doing good. Those who carry jagged tools, like hooks used to pull and push along whatever a person desires, are the ones who tempt you to take on good works beyond your strength—specifically in fasting, vigils, prayers, and labor, or in the unreasonable spending of your money.
Steadfastness in God
The soul is encouraged to rely on divine help and a firm intention to avoid sin as the primary defense against demonic threats.
Because these spirits are so eager to harm you, hold fast to this intention: refuse to offend God and ask for His help against their cruelty; then their threats won't be able to hurt you.
