The Call to Divine Love
The Queen of Heaven invites the soul to find all honor, desire, and virtue in the love of her Son.
"I am the Queen of Heaven." Love my Son, for He is most honorable, and when you have Him, you have all honor. He is also the most desirable, and when you have Him, you have everything that is desirable. Love Him also, for He is most virtuous, and when you have Him, you have all virtues.
The Mystery of the Virgin's Conception and Assumption
Mary recounts the chaste union of her parents, her own sanctification, and her glorious assumption into heaven.
I want to tell you how sweetly He loved my body, how sweetly He loved my soul, and how greatly He honored my name. My Son loved me before I loved Him, because He is my Creator. He joined my father and mother in marriage with such chastity that there could not have been a purer union; they never wished to come together except according to the law, and solely for the purpose of raising children. And when it was announced to them by the angel that they would bring forth a virgin from whom the salvation of the world would proceed, they would have preferred to die rather than come together in carnal love, for desire was dead within them. Yet I tell you for certain that they did come together in the flesh, not out of any lustful desire, but out of divine love and in obedience to the angel's announcement, and against their own will; and thus, through divine charity, my flesh was formed from their seed. Once my body was formed, God sent a created soul from His own divinity into that body, and the soul was immediately sanctified along with the body, which the angels guarded and watched over day and night. But when the soul was sanctified and joined to the body, such joy came to my mother that it would be impossible to describe. Then, when my life’s course was complete, He first raised my soul—because it was the mistress of the body—to the divinity more excellently than all others, and then my body, so that no creature's body might be as close to God as mine. See how much my Son loved my soul and my body! But some people, out of malice, deny that I was assumed body and soul, while others simply don't know any better. Yet this is the absolute truth: I was assumed into the Godhead, body and soul.
The Power of the Holy Name
The name of Mary brings joy to the angels and the souls in purgatory, while striking terror into the demons.
Listen to how much my Son has also honored my name! My name is Mary, just as it is read in the Gospel. When the angels hear this name, they rejoice in their conscience and give thanks to God, who worked such grace through me and with me, and they rejoice because they see the humanity of my Son glorified in the Godhead.1 Those in purgatory rejoice beyond measure, much like a sick person in bed who hears a word of comfort and, because it pleases their soul, immediately exults. When they hear this name, the good angels immediately draw closer to the righteous to whom they have been assigned for protection, and they rejoice in their progress; for good angels have been given to all people for protection, and evil angels for their testing. It isn't that the angels themselves are separated from God; rather, they serve the soul in such a way that they don't leave God, but remain constantly in His presence while still inflaming and inciting the soul to do good. Even all the demons fear and dread this name. When they hear the name Maria, they immediately release the soul from the claws that were holding it. For just as a bird that has its claws and beak in its prey will leave that prey if it hears a sound, and when it sees that nothing is going to happen, it immediately returns to it—so too, when demons hear my name, they immediately leave the soul as if terrified, but they fly back and return to it like a lightning-fast arrow, unless some amendment of life follows. Unless they are already damned, no one is so cold to the love of God that, if they call upon this name with the intention of never returning to their old ways, the devil won't immediately leave them; and he will never return to them again, unless they choose to take up the desire to sin mortally once more. Still, sometimes he is permitted to trouble them for the sake of their greater reward, but he is not permitted to possess them.
