Preces Quotidianae

Prayer for the Church

A prayer for the universal Church, asking for peace and preservation until the end of the age.

Remember your holy Church, which reaches from one end of the earth to the other, and give her peace—the Church you bought with your precious blood—and keep her firm.✦1 until the end of the age.

Prayer for Benefactors

A prayer for those who support the Church and care for the poor, asking God to reward them with heavenly and eternal gifts.

Remember the benefactors who bear fruit in Your holy Churches, and those who are mindful of the poor and the needy; repay them with Your rich and heavenly gifts. Bestow freely on them heavenly things for earthly ones, incorruptible things for what perishes, eternal things for temporary ones.

Prayer for the Faithful in All States of Life

A prayer for those living in virginity, chastity, celibacy, and honorable marriage, that they may live in the fear of God.

Remember those living in virginity, chastity, and religious celibacy, and also those living in honorable marriage with holy.23 they live in fear of you.4

Prayer for the Afflicted and Captive

A prayer for all suffering Christians, including captives, prisoners, the sick, and those who have gone astray, asking for mercy, healing, and freedom.

Remember every Christian soul that is afflicted, oppressed, and laboring—and so in need of your mercy and help—and our brothers who are in captivity, in prisons, in chains, or in bitter servitude, granting conversion to those who have gone astray, health to the sick,5 freedom for captives.

Scripture echoes

  1. ↩Acts.20.28;1Pet.1.18-1Pet.1.19 — Keep watch over yourselves and over the whole flock, in which the Holy Spirit has placed you as overseers, to shepherd the church of God, which he obtained through the blood of his own. 1Pet.1.18 — knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things—silver or gold—from your futile way of life handed down from your fathers, 1Pet.1.19 — but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot

Notes

  1. 1 ↩Source is badly corrupted (OCR/encoding): 'sanctz tuc Ecclesiz, quie est ἃ' read as 'sanctae tuae Ecclesiae, quae est a'; sentence breaks mid-clause at 'et eam stabili', continued in PrecesPriv.1.58.2.
  2. 2 ↩Source reading ccelibatu is almost certainly coelibatu/caelibatu (celibacy); rendered as religious celibacy.
  3. 3 ↩Printed section ends mid-phrase at cum sancto; the sense continues in the following section (tuo timore degunt).
  4. 4 ↩Clause fragment completing the previous petition (…cum sancto tuo timore degunt): those in virginity/chastity/celibacy and those in honorable marriage who live in your holy fear.
  5. 5 ↩Source is heavily abbreviated/corrupt: anim: → animae; Christianze/afflictze → Christianae/afflictae (early-modern æ as ze); oppresse → oppressae. The stray digit 4 before sanitatem is treated as a non-text footnote marker, not as part of the prayer.
