What is Self-Control?

Self-control is moderation in all aspects of life, guided by scripture, ensuring all actions are done with propriety and order.

Question 14. What is abstinence? Answer. Abstinence is moderation in food, drink, and clothing, as well as in speech and all actions. Guided by it, a person chooses what is proper, according to the Apostle: “Let us walk properly as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy” (Rom. 13:13). Similarly, he says elsewhere: “Let all things be done decently and in order” (1 Cor. 14:40).
