LII. De poenis furtorum
LII. De poenis furtorum
I also saw a wide and deep pit, in which many evil spirits were moving about. And in these punishments, the souls of those were tormented, who, while they were in their bodies, had stealthily taken away the possessions of others, so that even wicked spirits were driving them back and forth in those same torments. Because of the thefts they committed, they were held in this pit; and due to the restlessness of the night’s ambushes, they were tormented by the aforementioned worms; and because of their pursuit of the wicked art they had embraced, they were burned in this fire; and because of the blindness with which they did not behold God, they were afflicted by the worst spirits. And I saw and understood these things.
