XXV. 0(^0 vitia octo beatiti^in^us repugnantia

But what you see in that mentioned fog, which contains various kinds of vices, as has been stated, is that even the eight vices in their images manifest themselves in this way: they exist in a dark infidelity of a damnable perdition, which produces many kinds of arts of devilish deception, as has been shown above. Here, too, the eight vices reveal themselves in their abominable significations, opposing the eight beatitudes, from which, however, they are overcome by divine power and are compelled to return to the same perdition from which they proceed.

Sed quod in praedicta nebula, quae diversa genera vitiorum in se habet, ut praefatum est, nec etiam octo vitia in imaginibus suis hoc modo vides, hoc est quod in obscura infidelitate damnosae perditionis, quae multimodas artes diaboUeae exsufflationis producit, ut superius ostensum est, hic etiam octo vitia in exeerabilibus significationibus suis se manifestant, octo beatitudinibus repugnantia, a quibus tamen per divinam potentiam superantur, et in eamdem perditionem unde procedunt, redire coguntur.
