LVII. De inobedientiae poenis purgaloriis.
They also wandered in the deepest darkness, where the souls of those who had associated themselves with disobedience while in their bodies were walking over a fiery pavement as if they were lost; and the fiercest worms were tormenting them, lying on the same pavement and biting them. Since they were blind and refused to follow the commands of their leaders, they wandered in the same darkness; and because they walked stubbornly according to their own desires, they walked in the fire of this pavement; and because they defiantly resisted their superiors, they were punished by these worms. I saw and understood these things, and I heard again from the living light a voice saying to me: "What you see is true, and as you see it, so it is."

Yidi quoque densissimas tenebras, in quibus animae illorura qui dum in corporibus suis fuissent, inobedientiam sibi associaverunt, super igneum pavimentum quasi errando incedebant; quos etiam acerrimi vermes super idem pavimentum jacentes, morsibus suis attrectabant.
Quoniam enim coeci erant, ubi praecepta praelatorum suorum implere noluerant, in eisdem tenebris errabant; et quoniam per inobedientiam secundum voluntates suas proterve ambulaverant, in igne pavimcnti hujus incedebant; et quoniam praelatis suis contumaciter repugnaverant, a vermibus istis puniebantur.
Et vidi et intellexi haec, audivique iterum de praefata vivente luce vocem dicentem ad me: Haec quae vides, vera sunt, et ut ea vides, ita sunt.
