XXXV. Gaudiis fruuntur animae perfectorum, qui fuerunt^ sicut angeliy

They are separated from humanity. But in the purity of that same blessedness, in deeper joys, there are other souls of the perfect saints, who, while they were in their bodies, were devoted to divine contemplation; and these are adorned with every kind of heavenly virtue and with every kind of holiness. From this, they also praise God with high voices of trumpets; this is the breath that sounds from the mouths of prophets and wise people, as well as from the other chosen ones of God, because the countless works of the Holy Spirit are present in people, and in the harps of all joy they exult, so that even in such a marvelous sound, and in such an inexpressible sound, they resonate, which the human heart cannot grasp or understand. For when good works are done through the fire and water of the holiness of baptism, and since in those same works the other elements were moved, therefore, just as the sound of the sea and the sound of the waters resonate, which emit marvelous sounds beyond the multitude of sounds, these are the ones who, while living on earth, elevated themselves with the intention of their hearts from carnal desires and cast aside earthly cravings, as if they were not human, and thus they were separated from other peoples, just as angels are from men. For they flew to heavenly things through their contemplative works, and through the windows of faith, like in the goodness of a child's simplicity, they gazed upon God, and in these things they persevered steadfastly.
