LXXXXII. Poenitentia obduratorum.

And from that living light, I heard again a voice saying to me: "What you see is true." Therefore, people who are so hardened in this world that they show no mercy to those in need, if they wish to resist the same hardening that the wicked spirits show them, will punish themselves with bitter fasts and harsh whips to escape the torments you see, and they will act according to the measure of their own sins and the commands they have imposed on themselves.

Et de praedicta vivente luce iterum audivi vocem mihi dicentem: Haec quae vides vera sunt.

Unde homines qui in saeculo ita obdurati sunt, quod aliis indigentibus nullam misericordiam impendunt, si praedictis malignis spiritibus, eamdem obdurationem eis ostendcntibus volunt resistere, et poenas istas quas vides effugere, amaris jejuniis et diris flagellis se castigent, et hoo, juxta modum eorumdem peccatorum, et juxta m6dum praelatae sibi jussionis faciant.
