LXXXVIIII. De sqiMlidis joctUatorum moribiis.
The jester, indeed, makes certain people play in the midst of the squalor of their vices, as they desire, and they choose for themselves. For the wicked spirits want to deceive the heavenly harmony, but they will not prevail; and through the jester, they invade certain people and lead them astray with various games in falsehood, since they cannot make them play in truth. The praise that is truly harmonious cannot be offered to God, for it cannot be expressed, because it is unchanging, since it is the fullness of truth. The jester questions his own mind about where to fly and what he can do, and when he recognizes this in the mirror of knowledge, he turns it into vanity and lies; and when he gives sound to the elements, he goes wherever he pleases.

Joculatrix enim in vicissitudine squalidorum morum quosdam homines ludere facit, velut cupiunt, et veiut sibi eligunt.
Nam maligni spiritus isti coelestem symphoniam deludere volunt, et non praevalebunt; et idoo per joculatricem quosdam homines invadunt, et eos diversis lusibus in mendacio deludunt, quum eos in veritate ludere facere non possunt.
