When jubilation takes hold of a heart in love, people mock it, thinking its speech is foolish, as it speaks beyond measure of the fire it feels.

The soul struggles to conceal the sweetness of divine union, appearing as madness to those who do not understand the interior wound of love.
O jubilation, sweet joy, when you enter the mind, the heart knows how to hide its true state—but it cannot bear to keep from crying out. Anyone unaccustomed to this thinks you’ve gone mad, seeing you carry on like someone beside himself; the wound deep in the heart can’t be felt from the outside.

Quando iubilo se scalda, sì fa l’uomo cantare; et la lengua barbaglia et non sa que parlare, dentro non pò celare, tanto è grande el dolzore!
Quando iubilo è acceso, sì fa l’omo clamare; lo cor d’amore è preso che nol pò comportare, stridendo el fa gridare et non uergogna allore.
Quando iubilo ha preso lo cor enamorato, le gente l’à en deriso, pensando suo parlato, parlando smesurato de que sente calore.
O iubil, dolce gaudio, ched entri ne la mente, lo cor deuenta sauio celar suo conuenente, non può esser soffrente che non faccia clamore.
Chi non ha costumanza, te reputa empazito, uedendo sualianza com homo ch’è desuanito, dentro lo cor ferito non se sente de fuore.
