Háborúságinknak és nyavalyáinknak csendességgel szenvedéséért
Confession of Frailty and Plea for Grace
The soul confesses its frailty and unworthiness, acknowledges God's mercy in punishment, and prays for grace to bear afflictions with thanksgiving.
Lord God, You are the strength of the frail, the rest for the weary and burdened, the joy of the embittered, and the guardian and protector of the forsaken. God of all consolation, You see how frail and weak I am.✦ You see that I cannot bear the troubles You have sent upon me for my sins without Your holy grace.1 You know well how weak a vessel made of clay is; just as a speck of dust is swept away by a whirlwind, my weakness is overcome by troubles if You don't help me.✦✦ Therefore I humbly pray to your holy Majesty: give me such fortifying grace that whatever affliction you use to scourge your disobedient child, I may receive it gladly and with thanksgiving; that with full faith and quiet endurance I may bear your blows; and that in all things I may conform my judgment and my will to your holy will.✦ I confess, Lord, that for my deceits I have deserved more than what I now suffer; and I give you thanks that you do not repay me according to my deserts, but even in the punishment you show your fatherly mercy, and, as your son, you graciously rebuke and scourge me, so that I may not be carried away by the deceits of the flattering world. Blessed be your name, Lord, in all things—you who wound, and again heal; who scourge, and again console.✦
Enduring Suffering in the Footsteps of Christ and Job
The soul appeals to Christ's passion and Job's example, asks for strength to bear all troubles peacefully, and prays that afflictions lead to salvation rather than damnation.
O my redeeming God, true master of quiet endurance, who from your circumcision until your holy death suffered countless pain, insult, mockery, wounding, and scourging: give me such a steadfast heart that I may quietly bear every loss, disgrace, and insult. Merciful, gracious God, whose compassion surpasses all your other works: grant that by your holy grace, following the example of Job, who feared God, we may bear all our troubles patiently; for we suffer these as our sins deserve—we who used the peace and good fortune you gave us not for your service but for our own bodily pleasure. Lord Jesus Christ, who for my sake were crucified on the cross, support of the frail, comforter of the sorrowful, strength of the oppressed, joy of those who weep, protector of the forsaken, helper of the worn down, God of all consolation: support me and give me courage, that I may bear in peace all your scourges and your fatherly visitations. I cannot complain against you, Lord, for your scourging; for I know that if you punished me as I deserve, you would send far greater blows upon me. But this alone I ask of your holy name: that this present trouble of mine may be for my soul's salvation and for the honor of your holy name; and do not allow the waves of the world to rush upon me beyond my strength. You see, Lord, that our frailty cannot overcome this world's many troubles: therefore give us your holy grace, that we may bear in peace the scourges our sins have earned.2 Have mercy, Lord, have mercy on us; and though our continual sins deserve continual blows, still grant that every trouble of ours may be for the amendment of our life, not for our eternal damnation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Amen.
