Útonjárók könyörgése
Prayer for Divine Guidance and Protection on the Journey
The prayer invokes God's past guidance of Israel and the Magi, asks for protection like Abraham, and petitions for help, comfort, and safe passage through dangers.
Merciful, gracious God, who led the children of Israel through the sea on dry feet, and guided the three holy kings by your star: give us and our fellow travelers a favorable journey and quiet weather, so that under the guidance of your holy angel we may reach the place we set out for, and at last arrive happily in the rest of eternal life. Lord God, who brought your servant Abraham out from among the pagans, from the fire of the Chaldeans, and kept him safe in all his ways: we ask you to protect us also, your servants!✦✦ Be our help as we prepare, our comfort on the way, our shade in the heat, our shelter in rain and cold, our rest in weariness, our protection in misfortune, our staff on a hard road, and our guardian in danger: so that through you we may reach in peace the place we are bound for, and come home again in health.✦1 Lord, hear our prayer, and guide the path of your servants with your saving protection, so that amid the countless dangers of this world and of travelers, we may be kept safe by your help. We ask you, almighty Lord God, to grant that your servants may walk the path of salvation, and that, following the exhortations of your forerunner, Saint John, they may come with confidence to our Lord Jesus Christ.✦
Petition to Christ for Angelic Companionship and Eternal Rest
The prayer turns to Christ, asking for an angelic guardian as with Abraham, Jacob, and Tobias, and for recognition of earthly sojourning leading to promised blessedness, ending with a doxology.
Lord Jesus Christ, faithful and diligent protector of the human race, I ask you, for the sake of your many labors and pilgrimages on our behalf: send down your angel from high heaven to guard and teach me in all my ways, just as he kept Abraham, Jacob, and Tobias safe on their pilgrimages.✦ And by your holy death grant that we may all recognize that we are sojourners in this world, and that we may not cling to this earth, but with pure heart and soul long for you, and may reach the blessedness you have promised.✦2 You who live and reign, etc.3 Amen.

Amen.

Notes
- 1 ↩gonosz utunkban: rendered as 'on a hard road' (ill/hostile travel conditions); could also be read as a morally evil or perilous path. Travel-prayer context favors the physical-hardship sense.
- 2 ↩Hungarian jövevény is the biblical sojourner/stranger (peregrinus); rendered 'sojourners' to keep the pilgrim sense without Victorian 'strangers and pilgrims' diction.
- 3 ↩Source ends the prayer with the truncated doxological formula 'Ki élsz és uralkodol &c.'; English keeps the conventional abbreviated close rather than expanding the full Christological doxology.
