De causa hereticorum et fide Trinitatis,

The abundance of truth reveals itself fully and holily to those who seek it, while the mysteries hidden from others are made known to the children of unity. From this, the treachery of heretics arises, unless it comes from a disordered and undisciplined mind, which is blinded by a desire for its own excellence. Because they never stop attacking God through their empty desires, it is only fitting that they also resist the truth with obvious arguments from without. Since the Christian faith is meant to cut off all opposition and unite in faith and love, it is the nature of heretics and the proud to constantly generate new opinions and to spread unusual questions that stray from ecclesiastical assertions, thus delighting in the destruction of what faithful Christians hold steadfastly. You desire what is not fitting for you, and you know well that it is not right. Only God knows Himself or can know Himself. It is not a limitation of God's power that He cannot teach you about Himself as He truly is; rather, it is due to His inestimable greatness, because there cannot be another being like Him. If it could be fully known, it wouldn't be incomprehensible. It’s enough for you to know that God is, and it will benefit you if you want to know what God is. It is commendable to know that God is perfect, indeed incomprehensible; by knowing Him, we come to love Him; by loving Him, we rejoice in Him; by rejoicing, we find rest in Him; and through this inner peace, we attain eternal rest. Don't let it trouble you that I said God can be perfectly known, and I denied that you can know God, since the psalmist still says: "Show your mercy to those who know you."^✦ But understand this authority in this way if you don’t want to go astray: namely, for those who know you are to love, praise, worship, and glorify God, the sole Creator of all things, above all, through all, and in all, who is blessed forever and ever.
