The Ministry of Mercy and Remembrance

The chapter calls for active compassion toward the suffering and the imprisoned, alongside the faithful commemoration of departed loved ones to secure divine favor.

Visit those in monasteries, hospitals, hermitages, and those locked in prison; give them alms and whatever provisions they need. When you see their hardship, sorrow, and needs, help them as much as you can. Do not turn away from anyone who is afflicted, poor, needy, or destitute: bring them into your home, give them drink, feed them, warm them, and clothe them with all love and a pure conscience. By doing these things, you will make God merciful toward you and you will gain freedom. Also, keep the memory of your departed parents: bring offerings to God's churches, host a meal for them in your home, and give alms to the poor—and you yourself will be remembered by God.^✦12
