Како таинам Божиим причащатися и веровати воскресению мертвых, и Страшнаго Суда чаяти и касатися всякои святыни
Sacred Reverence in Word and Deed
The author instructs the faithful to approach the Eucharist, holy relics, and the consumption of blessed bread with profound physical and spiritual discipline.
Believe in God's holy Mysteries; believe that you receive His Body and Blood, and do so with reverence, for the cleansing and sanctification of both soul and body, for the forgiveness of sins, and for eternal life. Believe in the resurrection of the dead and the life of the age to come. Remember the Dread Judgment, and that recompense according to our deeds will come to us. Whenever you have purified yourself spiritually and approach with a clean conscience, with prayer and with supplication, kiss the Life-giving Cross; and after prayer, having crossed yourself, kiss the holy, honorable images and the wonderworking, greatly healing relics—holding your breath and not parting your lips. And if God grants someone to partake of the Divine Mysteries of Christ, then receive them carefully from the priest on the spoon into your mouth; do not smack your lips, and keep your hands folded crosswise on your chest. Taste the antidoron, the prosphora, and every holy thing carefully, and do not let crumbs fall to the ground. Do not bite the prosphora with your teeth as you would ordinary bread; break off small pieces, put them in your mouth, and eat carefully with your lips and mouth without smacking or chewing noisily. Do not eat prosphora with any other food or sauce—only sip water, or warm water with the wine of the service, or without wine—and mix nothing else in. Finish the prosphora before any other food, whether in church or at home. Never eat prosphora with kutia or with the memorial kanon, and do not place prosphora on the kutia. If you exchange the kiss of peace with someone in Christ, likewise hold your breath and kiss without smacking your lips. Consider human weakness: we shrink from the breath of garlic, of drink, of the sick, and from every foul smell—how much more abhorrent to the Lord is our own stench and odor. For this reason, do all these things with care.12345

Notes
- 1 ↩дора is the blessed bread (antidoron) distributed after the Divine Liturgy; rendered as antidoron to keep the Orthodox sacramental specificity.
- 2 ↩просфира is prosphora, the leavened altar bread of the Orthodox rite; kept as prosphora rather than flattened to ordinary 'bread.'
- 3 ↩волога is liquid food, gravy, or moist accompaniment; the sense is not to take prosphora with any other food or drink except the allowed sip of water (or warm water with service wine).
- 4 ↩кутья is the memorial grain dish (kutia); канун here is the memorial offering/food associated with the kanon service—not the liturgical office itself.
- 5 ↩Source surface has Latin 'ce' for Cyrillic себе ('in yourself'); translated as holding your breath (дух в себе удержав).
