De castrensibus Medeivage.
The Great Crusade Against Medewage
In 1329, King John of Bohemia and a vast host of German and English nobles marched to Prussia, besieged the castle of Medewage, won many to baptism, but the converts soon fell away.
In the year of our Lord 1329, John of Luccelburgk, king of Bohemia, together with the nobles of his kingdom, the duke of Silesia from Valkenbergk, the counts of Lininged, Olingee, Niuenar, Wilnowf, Hanaw, Wirtenbergkg, Scowenbergkh, and Valkensteyn, and the lords of Kerpin, Gera, Berga, Rotenstein, Damisk, Kotebus, and Misna, along with the burgrave of Dona — and with many nobles from the kingdoms of Germany and England — entered the land of Prussia. With all these came Brother Werner and the brothers — 200,000 and 15,000 thousands of warriors, not counting foot-soldiers — and they marched toward Lethowia. On the vigil of the Purification of Blessed Mary they besieged the castle of Medewage. After many assaults, they submitted themselves to the Christian faith, and six thousand men from the aforesaid castle were baptized in the name of the Lord. But not long afterward they apostatized.
