Chapter 86ChrP.5.86

De resuscitacione cujusdam pueri mortui in terra Prussie in Castr.

A Child Raised by the Wood of the Cross

In 1322, at the castle of Brandenburg in Prussia, an eleven-year-old boy named Thomas died and was restored to life through the power of a relic of the True Cross, which had previously proven its authenticity by leaping from a fire before many witnesses.

Brandenburg. In the year of our Lord 1322, in the land of Prussia, in the castle of Brandenburg, there lived Thomas, son of Hertwig, from Pokarwis. When he was eleven years old, he died and came back to life by the power of the wood of the Lord — wood that a brother from Vleckensteina, from Beno, had carried there beforehand. Brother Gevehardus from Mansvelt once threw it into a fire, and it leapt back out of the fire, with many watching, to prove that it was truly the wood of the cross on which Christ had hung.
