De morte quorundam Lethowinorum.
A Fruitful Ambush
Brother Henry's expedition to Semigallia fails to find Lithuanian reapers, but a subsequent ambush by the Teutonic Knights turns the tables, killing twelve Lithuanians.
That same year, at harvest time, Brother Henry, commander of Tapiow, rode out with eight brothers and three hundred men to the field of Semigallia, which lies opposite the castle of Pastovie. But the Lithuanian reapers he was looking for were nowhere to be found — the rainy weather had kept them from their work. So he took thirty-three horses and returned. But the Lithuanians, following behind, came to the place where the brothers had set an ambush. One of them — having cast lots according to the rite of paganism — shouted at the top of his voice: 'Let us quickly turn back! The Teutonic Knights' ambushes are here!' When this was heard, while the Lithuanians were withdrawing, the brothers leaped out from their ambush and pursued them, killing twelve.
