Chapter 284ChrP.4.284

De adventu peregrinorum, et intenso frigore.

Pilgrims Arrive and Winter Devastates

In 1323, Bohemian and Rhenish nobles arrive in Prussia, but an unprecedented frost destroys orchards across Livonia and Prussia and halts the crusading army's advance before it reaches Lithuania.

In the year of our Lord 1323, the lord of Cinnenbergkk and the lord of Egerbergk, together with many nobles from Bohemia and Reno, were in the land of Prussia. That winter there was an intense frost, so severe that nearly all the fruit-bearing trees in Livonia and Prussia either withered entirely or couldn't recover their former strength for many years. So although a great army gathered by the brothers had come nearly to the midpoint of the road between Lithuania and Prussia, it couldn't advance further, because the common people would have perished from the excessive cold.
