De destruclione navis hujus.
The Lithuanian Assault on the Ship
The Lithuanian king sends Surmin with a fleet to destroy the ship, and after fierce fighting the vessel is captured and burned.
When the king of the Lithuanians heard the report of this ship, he was disturbed, and all Lithuania with him; and after many councils and various discussions had been held for its destruction, he sent a noble and warlike man, Surmin, with a hundred ships, in which were six hundred men and more, along with a hundred horsemen. While they attacked the ship, the archers inside, who had been assigned for its defense, fought back manfully. At last, after the rope by which the ship had been tied was cut, the ship descended toward Memel, and coming down they attacked fiercely, so that with many Lithuanians wounded and Scoldonea, the brother of the said Surmin, killed, they captured the ship; and after killing the archers inside, they reduced it to ashes.
