At that time, when the apostasy of the Prussians still had no end in sight, Brother Conrad of Wucgwangen, master general of the Teutonic Order, came to the land of Prussia. Seeing it oppressed by countless tribulations, he strengthened the brothers with words and salutary exhortations, and comforted them through magnificent gifts.12
Read the original Latin
Eo tempore, quo adhuc apostasia Pruthenorum necdum haberet finem, fra ter Conradus de Wucgwangen magister generalis domus Theutonice, venit ad terram Prussie, vidensque ipsam innumeris oppressam tribulacionibus, fratres verbis et exhortacionibus salutiferis confortans per dona magnifica consolatur.
Notes
- 1 ↩'apostasia Pruthenorum' refers to the Prussian uprisings against Christian/Teutonic rule; 'apostasy' here carries both religious and political force — a turning away from the faith and from imposed order.
- 2 ↩The raw text reads 'fra ter Conradus' with a clear scribal abbreviation break; normalized to 'frater Conradus' (Brother Conrad). The toponym 'Wucgwangen' is uncertain in form.
