De conversione Scumandi capitanei Sudowitarum.
The Exile and Return of Scumandus
Scumandus, unable to withstand the relentless attacks of the Teutonic brothers, flees with his household to Russia but, wearied by exile, eventually returns to his native land.
This Scumandus was powerful and wealthy in the territory of Sudowia called Crasima, and since he couldn't endure the constant attacks of the brothers, he withdrew from his land with his entire household and his friends to the land of Russia. After he had lived there for some time, worn out by exile, he returned to his native land.
Scumandus Submits to the Faith
After repeated attacks upon his return, Scumandus at last humbly submits himself and his entire household to the Christian faith and to the Teutonic brothers.
When the brothers saw that he had returned, they attacked him again in war, harassing him so often that at last, with his entire house and household, he submitted himself to the faith and to the brothers.1

Notes
- 1 ↩fidei rendered as 'the faith' (i.e., the Christian faith) rather than 'good faith' or 'trust,' given the context of a pagan captain's conversion and submission to the Teutonic brothers.
