A Mother's Rebuke
Namedad, mother of Posdraupoti, rebuked her sons for failing to defend their lives and people from the enemy.
When Namedad, the mother of Posdraupoti of the line of the Monteminorum, saw this, she said to her sons: 'I grieve that I ever bore you, since you are unwilling to defend your lives and your people from the enemy.'1
The Sortie and the Slain
Provoked by their mother's words, the defenders sallied forth and killed more than two thousand of the besieging army.
Provoked by these words, her sons and the other men of the castle went out to battle, and from the army of the unbelievers they killed more than two thousand.2
