Gebet der Umstehenden für den Kranken
A Plea for Mercy and Healing
The prayer begins by invoking God's mercy and grace for the physical and spiritual restoration of the sick person.
Almighty, gracious God, who sustain our life in death and dying: we ask you to turn your eyes of mercy toward this sick person, refresh him in body and soul, and forgive him all his sins by grace.✦
The Sufficiency of Christ's Sacrifice
The prayer grounds the sick person's hope in the cleansing power of Christ's blood and his baptismal identity.
Accept the sacrifice of the innocent death of Jesus Christ, your dear Son, as payment for his wrongdoing, since he too has been baptized in his name and washed and cleansed with his blood.✦✦1
Strength in Suffering and Spiritual Conflict
The prayer asks for relief from physical pain and protection against spiritual temptations during the final struggle.
So now deliver him from the body's torment and pain, shorten his suffering, uphold him against the accusation of conscience and against every assault of the evil enemy, so that he may fight valiantly in faith and overcome.✦
A Blessed Homecoming
The prayer concludes by asking for a peaceful transition into eternal life, accompanied by angels to join the assembly of the elect.
Grant him a blessed homecoming into eternal life; send your holy angels to accompany him to the assembly of all the elect in Christ Jesus, our Lord.✦✦2 Amen.

Amen.
