Gebet im letzten Stündlein

The Foundation of Divine Promise

The believer anchors their hope in the truthfulness of God and the assurance provided through Christ and the Sacraments.

Almighty, eternal, merciful Lord and God, you who are the Father of our dear Lord Jesus Christ! I know for certain that you have the will and the power to keep every promise you’ve made, for you cannot lie; your word is true. In the beginning you promised me your dear only Son, Jesus Christ; he has come and redeemed me from the devil, death, hell, and sins; then, for greater assurance, out of gracious will you gave me the Sacraments of Baptism and of the Altar, in which forgiveness of sins, eternal life, and all heavenly goods are offered to me.1 Relying on that offer, I have used them, and in faith, I have firmly trusted his word and received them.2

A Peaceful Departure

Confident in the promises of God, the believer expresses readiness to face death with joy and peace.

Therefore, I have no doubt that I am well, safe, and at peace from the devil, death, hell, and sin. If this is my hour and your divine will, then I will gladly depart from here in peace and with joy, trusting your word. Amen.

Read the original Latin

Amen.
