The Mother of God and the Guardian Angel
The faithful honor the Theotokos and petition the Guardian Angel for strength and righteousness.
Truly we confess you as the Mother of God, we who have been saved through you, O pure Virgin, magnifying you with the ranks of the bodiless hosts. Have mercy on me, my only Savior, for you are merciful and compassionate, and let me share in the choirs of the righteous. Grant me always to think and to do what is good and useful, O Angel of the Lord, and show me strong in weakness and pure.1
Boldness in Prayer
The concluding doxologies and final petitions emphasize the intercessory boldness of the heavenly hosts and the Theotokos.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Since you have boldness before the King of Heaven, pray to Him, together with the other bodiless powers, to have mercy on me, the wretched one.✦2 Both now and always, and forever and ever. Amen. O Virgin, since you have such bold access to the One who took flesh from you, free me from my bonds, and through your prayers grant me release and salvation.3

Scripture echoes
- ↩Heb.4.16;Eph.3.12;1John.3.21 — Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Eph.3.12 — In him we have boldness and access in confidence through faith in him. 1John.3.21 — Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, then we have confidence before God.
Notes
- 1 ↩Church Slavonic яви́ can be read as imperative (“show/make”) or aorist (“you have shown”). Feminine си́льна / непоро́чна more naturally fit a purpose-result reading about the petitioner (or the soul) than a description of the Angel (masculine). Rendered as petition: make me strong in weakness and pure. Alternative causal reading: “for you have shown yourself strong in weakness and pure.”
- 2 ↩дерзнове́ние is the standard liturgical rendering of bold confidence/access before God (cf. Greek parrhesia); 'boldness' keeps the liturgical sense without softening into mere courage. безпло́тными = the bodiless/incorporeal angelic hosts; 'bodiless powers' is the conventional Orthodox English for the angelic orders.
- 3 ↩дерзнове́ние renders the liturgical sense of confident boldness/access before God (παρρησία), not mere audacity. разреше́ние is taken as loosing/release (from bonds and sin), parallel to преложи́ мя́ от у́з.
