The Foundation of Prayer
A prayer of dedication for the laying of a chapel's cornerstone, seeking God's blessing upon the building and those who will worship within it.
O Lord, merciful and gracious, your people are preparing to build a place for your service. I humbly ask you to accept their devotion, and make them perfect in both their current and future duties; so that while you grant them the ease to honor you, they may continue in your service with even greater eagerness. And now, O Lord, by your mercy and goodness, I have laid the first stone of this building. It is a cornerstone; I pray you make it a happy foundation and a durable building. Let it rise, be completed, and remain a house of prayer and devotion throughout the ages, so that your people may be taught here to believe in Jesus Christ, the true cornerstone, upon whom they and their souls may be built safe forever. Grant this for the merit of the same Jesus Christ, our most blessed Lord and Savior. To whom, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, be ascribed all power, majesty, and dominion today and forever. Amen.

O Lord merciful and gracious, this thy People are preparing to build a place for thy Service: Accept I humbly beseech thee their present Devotion, and make them perfect both in their present and future duty; that while thou givest them ease to honour thee, they may with the greater alacrity go on in thy Service. And now, O Lord, I have by thy mercy and goodness, put to my hand to lay the first stone in this Building: 'tis a Corner-stone, make it, I beseech thee, a happy Foundation, a durable Building. Let it rise up, and be made, and continue a House of Prayer and Devotion through all ages; that thy People may here be taught to believe in Iesus Christ the true Corner-stone, upon whom they and their souls may be built safe for ever. Grant this for the merit of the same Iesus Christ our most blessed Lord and Saviour. To whom with the Father and the Holy Spirit, be ascribed all Power, Majesty, and Dominion this day and for ever.
